Can an AI really handle an emotional family law caller?
It handles the intake with patience and consistency — which is often what a caller in distress needs most at 11 PM. Lumi listens, acknowledges, reassures the caller that the firm can help, and gathers the facts without rushing or interrogating. It isn’t a therapist or a lawyer, and it doesn’t pretend to be; it makes the caller feel heard, captures what your attorney needs, and books the consult. Anything sensitive or urgent goes to a person.
What happens if a caller is in danger?
Safety comes first. If a caller describes immediate danger or a domestic-violence emergency, Lumi is scripted to direct them to 911 or the appropriate hotline and to escalate to your on-call contact — it never tries to manage a safety emergency on its own. You define exactly what triggers that path.
How does the conflict check work?
Lumi captures the opposing party’s name and identifying details on the first call and records them with the intake, flagging a potential conflict for your team to review and clear. It does not decide whether a conflict exists — that’s your firm’s call — but it makes sure the information is gathered up front instead of surfacing after you’ve invested time.
Does it give legal advice or predict outcomes?
No. Lumi is an intake receptionist: it greets, screens, schedules, and routes to a licensed attorney. It never advises on custody, support, or property, never predicts how a case will turn out, and answers only factual questions about your firm. Legal questions wait for the attorney.
Does using the intake line create an attorney-client relationship?
No, and Lumi says so in the language you choose. Contacting the firm through the intake line does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship, and the conversation isn’t privileged legal advice — representation begins with your engagement agreement and a licensed attorney.
Which systems does it write into?
It works on top of the tools family firms run — Clio Grow, Clio, MyCase, Lawmatics, Smokeball, and PracticePanther among them. It creates the contact, attaches the intake and conflict-check details, and books the consult. Your system stays the record; Lumi keeps it current. Using something else? Ask.
Can it answer in other languages?
Yes — every caller is answered in their own language, 70+ of them, across phone, text, web chat, and WhatsApp. The intake is summarized in English in your system so any attorney can pick it up.
How much does it cost for a family law firm?
Flat monthly pricing, sized to your call volume and the channels you enable — not a per-minute meter. Solo and multi-attorney firms are scoped differently, so the honest answer depends on your setup. Book a demo, tell us your volume and case-management system, and we’ll put a specific number in front of you.
